Rehabilitating Offenders

Probation's aim is the rehabilitation of offenders to law-abiding lives. Community reintegration is crucial to achieving long-term change in offenders' behaviour. A crucial part of work with offenders is to address problems such as substance misuse, lack of basic skills, unemployment and homelessness.

Probation accredited programmes and interventions with offenders are geared to promote practical changes to avoid re-offending and to develop positive social relationships and activities and settled lifestyle.

Our partnerships with other agencies, in statutory and independent and voluntary sectors, have a big role in supporting offenders' reintegration, for example in the delivery of specialised services for substance misuse, in providing support and opportunities for offenders to deal with problems of housing, with employment agencies and training agencies to improve the prospects of jobless offenders.
