Accomodation

Inadequate housing, insecure housing or homelessness are all significant factors influencing the likelihood of re-offending and so housing related support services are essential in promoting offenders' rehabilitation.

In Lancashire, we employ accommodation officers, whose role is to assist offenders resolve their accommodation difficulties. This service is available to all offenders supervised by Probation in Lancashire. We also fund a number of beds in short term accommodation projects specifically set up to rehabilitate offenders in the community. These projects also work with the offender to secure long term accommodation and teach independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking and cleaning.

The Probation Service is one of the four main agencies in "Supporting People", funding housing support services. Through this initiative, we are involved across the entire country in representing offenders' accommodation needs to ensure successful resettlement and integration into the community.
